Use primary documents, distinguish facts from interpretation and note missing context.
Start with the original document
Exchange announcements and company reports are primary sources. Read the complete document rather than relying only on a social-media summary.
Separate statement and inference
Write down what the document states, then place your own interpretation in a separate section.
Check dates and scope
Confirm the reporting period, units, comparisons and qualifications. Old or partial information can be misleading when removed from context.
Journal prompt
Write one fact you observed, one assumption you made and one question that remains unanswered.
Markets are uncertain and investing can result in loss. Historical information does not guarantee a future outcome.
